"No... that's alright. We have enough, if we're careful," says John.

"I'd be afraid to introduce anything that might offset the balance," says Ann.

Plant nods. "That is being very understandable. We are having to be very much careful in the planning for Mars for the same reason."

Ann nods, but then stops and looks at her husband as Grace pokes Scarab in the nose area and makes a beeping sound. John blinks and then gives a sheepish grin as the calves giggle.

Scarab blinks, goes crosseyed looking at the trunk, slips on a patch of snow, and rolls like a ball. Sheldon, Gate, and Plant are soon all trying to stifle snickers.

And Ann puts both hands over her mouth in attempt to keep her own laughter in.

That laughter swiftly changes to a shout of alarm as three hundred pounds of feline comes bounding through the portal aiming at the baby.

Sheldon's a guard, and Plant's had combat experience. Both are quick to react. Sheldon throws one of his shells at the feline, rushing forward to intercept. Plant triggers armor recall and moves closer to the little mammoth, putting her Plant Barrier forcefield around herself and the baby.

"What is that?" is all Gate really has time to say. Scarab blinks in surprise, uprighting himself just in time to see the creature.

John grabs Joshua, then leaps to his feet, unmindful of flying stew, and scoops Tara up in passing even as Ann also rushes toward the cat with her spear thrower already humming from her first throw.

Grace gives a bellow of rage and grabs John and the children, stuffing them into the open pouch even as she too comes forward to meet the monster that's dared to attack her family. And Sarah has Gate. He's not fighting, and he seems lost. She'll protect him.

As for the cat, he's surprised as he bounces off something he can barely see and doesn't understand. But he's in the prime of his life, and he's taken down grown mammoths in his time. He's confident that he'll be able to secure himself something to e... ow!

Roaring, he turns on Sheldon as Ann's spear whistles over his head and grazes his shoulders.

Gate does have the sense to switch to combat armor, but that is just a defensive measure. He can't see any way to get a clear shot with the one weapon it gives him access to.

Plant stays safely inside her Plant Barrier, and tries to keep the baby mammoth calm. She can't keep it up forever, but she's sure she won't have to.

Sheldon throws the other shell just as the first starts coming back to him like a big boomerang.

And Scarab is on the move now. He's small, but he's fast - and he rolls up a bunch of the snow nearby, and then starts rolling the giant ball of snow towards the feline.

Grace's tusk strikes a furious blow to the cat's head as he tries to dodge the things flying at him, and the tiger snarls and lashes out, suddenly unmindful of Ann, who's run right up to it and launches a spear at point blank range.

This done, the woman leaps out of the way of Sheldon and Scarab's attacks.

And John is now standing on Grace's head, legs braced and his own spear thrower poised as he waits for a clear shot.

Scarab is now trying to run over the cat with a snowball bigger than both of them, as Sheldon waits to see if either of his shells hit the target.

Both of them hit, actually, though neither get him in a vital place. They make him mad, though. Scarab's ball, however, scares him spitless, and he actually trips over Ann in his haste to get away from it.

Scarab will continue to chase the cat, the snowball just getting bigger as he rolls it around.
