They'll arrive in a rather richly decorated bedroom. The top sheets and the pillow coverings have already been stripped from the large four-poster bed, with reason that it was quicker than trying to clean up the layer of dust under the circumstances. The discarded bedding is in a pile on the floor for now.
An undisturbed layer of dust still lays over the rest of the room, the signs of the previous resident of this room having been absent for some time. And the signs that he didn't intend it to be so long, either... There's a dressing gown over the back of a chair... a playbook left on a vanity table, with a bookmark marking a place... If it weren't for the dust, there would be the impression that he had just stepped out for a moment.
"I should see about warding the place against unannounced teleportation, after other things have been seen to," Mikoto comments. After all, she wouldn't want just anyone arriving like this.

Date: 2011-07-02 09:58 (UTC)You'd want to be careful of casual callers, there's no telling what intentions they might have- oh wait. Well, at least she has the grace to keep her motives ulterior.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 13:24 (UTC)"The scanning and treatment equipment is portable. I will retrieve it. Do you wish to see the lab or monitor the subject?"
Mikoto has some understanding of ulterior motives. In fact, she distrusts altruism and fully expects Telrim has her own reasons for assisting. It doesn't bother her in the least, as long as it doesn't become a threat to her. And, in that case, she's secure in her ability to defend herself. She knows, though, that being taken by surprise or suddenly outnumbered can make a great difference.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 14:18 (UTC)Telrim follows her to the door as she replies. "If it'll only take a few minutes, I should probably take a look at the lab. So I'll know where things are if we have to find them in a hurry."
She pauses then. "...'Subject'?"
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 15:00 (UTC)Mikoto speaks as she walks through the door from the bedroom into a combination sitting room and library, and then heads towards the closest of two doors leading out of it. The door has no knob. Instead, at her touch it slides into the wall. "One possibility for identification was suggested in the Nexus, but still requires confirmation." She isn't just going to take strangers at their word, after all. "I would not want to become accustomed to referring to him by a name that might be inaccurate." That, and she's trying to retain some detachment.
The lab, thankfully, is lacking in the layer of dust. Systems here keep the air clean and reasonably sterile... even with the door open there seems to be a faint shimmer of something over the doorway that crackles slightly in reaction to contact with dust in the air. The room has none of the dark wood present elsewhere, only the silvery metal and a high degree of technology. Mikoto seems quite at home here. She heads for shelves containing several devices, gathering up one silvery golf-ball sized sphere and another item that looks like some kind of cuff or manacle. She takes brief note that one each of the devices is missing from storage, but it doesn't seem very important at the moment.
A silvery door leading off of this room is sealed, and not just with technology. A faint red shimmer covers the door, rippling like oil patterns in water. Mikoto just ignores it.

Date: 2011-07-02 15:32 (UTC)"Still, 'subject' seems a little... cold." Which she knows might be a bonus for the emotion-shy Genome, but that doesn't mean she's going to play along. "What might his name be, then?"
She blinks as they pass through the door: ah, good to know the technology is really up to par here. She skirts the lab after Mikoto, noting the sealed door and checking out the equipment along the way - though she knows better than to activate anything, of course. She stops at the shelves, gaze picking over the assortment of alien devices.
Telrim can guess that most of it is standard lab equipment, perhaps very little different to those the Yeerks already use. But still there's that inner thrill of success: discovery, novelty, and a whole new alien technology to study...

Date: 2011-07-02 16:01 (UTC)"Based on the tattoo, someone suggested he belonged to a group called the 'Death Eaters', and most likely would be killed on sight if returned to his universe of origin. A damaged and mostly unreadable crest attached to his clothing suggested to another person that was called by the first that he might be Regulus Black. If this is accurate, he has a brother named Sirius, and his family believes he is dead."
She takes the two items from the lab back to the bedroom as she speaks. Touching the sphere to the cuff, both items light up as faint etchings in the smooth metal surfaces glow. She lets the sphere hover in the air, touching it to seemingly 'pull' out a holographic scanning display. The cuff is placed around Regulus's right wrist.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 17:21 (UTC)"Death Eaters..." she echoes, drawing a blank on that. Intriguing, though. She folds her arms as she studies the display. "His family was almost right. I wonder what he did to make himself so unpopular. ...Is that all the equipment?"
She allows a certain amount of naive surprise to colour her tone.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 18:11 (UTC)"It is all that is required at this time," Mikoto says, instructing the device to run scans by tapping at the holographic screen. "I would not be surprised to find other projects hidden away."
The text displayed is in Terran, but some of the illustrations might be understandable. The scan is very thorough, showing both genetic information and physiology alongside current status. It even notes the probability that Regulus's parents were second cousins. Mikoto also has it show and analyze the recently-healed injuries.
"He is not carrying any infection," she comments. Another few taps and the cuff placed on Regulus's arm glows slightly. "His current condition is primarily due to blood loss and exhaustion. I have instructed the medical computer to begin alleviating the former through replication."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 19:28 (UTC)"That's a relief." She means it. Proper quarantine procedure would slow them down. "He'll need a while to rest and eat. But hopefully he won't be too scarred by whatever he went through."
A thoughtful look at the boy. "He might be too exhausted to move once he wakes, but even so... do you think there's any chance of his being dangerous?"
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 20:09 (UTC)"Estimate of mental trauma is difficult without knowing exactly what happened to him." She studies one of the readings, which is an indication of magical ability. And notes something else as well. "As for danger... It is possible, but there are multiple possibilities for containment if he is hostile, delirious, or both." She runs a further scan of that 'tattoo'.
"There is some kind of enchantment connected to the marking on his arm." Further information was most definitely needed.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 20:30 (UTC)Maybe it's magic, her host suggests, and she responds with a ripple of gloomy 'laughter'. It's unknown in her world - which she's sure makes it nonexistent, so where it's concerned the Yeerk soldier feels completely out of her element.
Well, not entirely. Danger and prisoners- or 'subjects' are much the same anywhere. Confirmation that Mikoto has a means to handle the former is good news - well, as long as it's not going to be turned on her.
"I don't know much about magic," she says apologetically. "But he had some belongings with him, didn't he? Perhaps they could tell us more."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 21:09 (UTC)She nods at mention of belongings. "Not many. His ruined clothing, and a small wooden item." She isn't sure what it is. It looked like some kind of small pointer for presentations to her. She goes to unwrap the bundle, showing Telrim the wand. "It has some kind of enchantment. Scans might be able to determine what it is for."
She unfolds the still-damp robes, casting float on them so they hang in the air as if from an invisible hanger, for easier inspection. They were once rather well made, mostly black with some silver and green trim, and a small decorative crest about where the breast pocket would be on a shirt. The crest is now torn and stained, with only some of the letters at the bottom edge readable. 'T--j--rs P-r' The uncertain letters could be either o's or u's.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 21:48 (UTC)The Controller almost smiles. "It looks like a wand to me. In, ah, my universe's stories, wizards use them to cast spells."
She looks at the robes then, reaching out to touch them, fingering the tears. Good quality clothes, if an unusual kind. "Interesting that he has a family crest. Very old-school aristocrat, if his world is anything like Earth."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 22:14 (UTC)The mention of wand use interests her. "Interesting. I sensed magic from him, however, as well as from the wand. Perhaps it acts as a focus. The first of my brother's Black Waltzes often used a bell to aid in spell channeling." A moment later, she adds, "It should be kept out of his reach until we can be certain he is not hostile."
Mikoto nods, and then examines the Dark Mark more closely. She frowns as she holds a hand less than an inch from Regulus's arm. "Perhaps the intention with this was to design wards that only those with the marking could pass. There are some aspects of it that remind me of access spells for wards."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 23:14 (UTC)The filters that guard Yeerk pool entrances base their identifications on DNA and biosigns: interesting to consider the potential for a magical alternative. "So it's more than a visual signature. Like a... chip or something."
She nods at the wand. "Should I put it in the lab?"
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-02 23:46 (UTC)"As for wand use... unknown without further study, but it will be interesting to find out," Mikoto says. "I would like to have the computer scan it for analysis, and then it can be placed in the lab." She'll touch the wall panel again, knowing a scan won't interfere with the communications upgrades. As soon as the scan is complete, she'll give Telrim a nod.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 00:14 (UTC)Telrim waits for the scan to finish uncomplainingly. She has the air of someone quite used to waiting for scientists to finish doing their sciencey things.
Once Mikoto gives the nod, she steps forward to pick the wand up by what looks like the handle end. Despite her host's amusement regarding the thing, it's a weapon, and Telrim handles it as such. For one thing, she's going to keep the end pointed away from anything important.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 00:25 (UTC)As for Regulus himself, he's looking a bit better by now, though still unconscious for the moment.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 00:51 (UTC)Then she goes to find somewhere in the lab it'll be safe. A container would likely be best, if there's one she can find. And recognise. The technology here looks very different.
She's back before long, and going to check on the patient. "I'm no doctor, but he seems to have improved."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 01:18 (UTC)She'll move aside to let Telrim see the various files, and check on Regulus again. "There is nothing on the Mark being used for tracking, but it is used to call Death Eaters to meetings. It changes color and burns them." From her tone, Mikoto thinks this is a ridiculous way to notify someone that you want to have a chat.
((As for the info, pretty much anything on Regulus that could be googled is fair game, as well as book excerpts))
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 01:45 (UTC)She tries pulling up some more information on the Mark. "I suppose that's one way to keep people from dawdling in the face of a summons. Though if you need to resort to that..." She sounds pitying for a moment. What Yeerk would delay when called by their visser?
The Controller reads a little more, then shakes her head. "So, a half-drowned magical supremacist with a conscience." Slightly zombie-chewed. "This ought to be interesting."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 02:21 (UTC)"I think it will be best to attempt to remove the Mark at some point. Even if he can not be traced through it, something could trigger it. And since his actions imply his intent to leave the group by the only means that seemed available," namely dying, "I doubt there will be any protest."
Mikoto almost has a trace of a smile for a moment. "Yes, it should. I doubt restraints will be necessary, but removing his wand from his reach will likely have been a good idea."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 02:42 (UTC)"Yes, it's not as if- there's any point in keeping it." As if they were planning to trap his former colleagues with it, she almost says. But the suggestion doesn't fit the impression she wants to make. " assume it's not as simple as a skin transplant. Do you think you can do it?"
Telrim makes a noise of agreement. "Considering where he lost consciousness, he may well assume danger."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 18:42 (UTC)Mikoto studies the scan analysis of the spell further. "Possibly. The pattern indicates that it was meant to be permanent unless the original caster were to die. However, since he does not exist in this universe, it has weakened the spell. And my own world and several others I have visited have various ways of removing unwanted enchantment. The marking might even fade on its own, but that would not indicate a complete removal of the underlying magic. It is a complicated enchantment, and I do not want to risk it while he is in this condition."
Mikoto nods at that. It would be completely understandable if he did. And attempts at restraint would likely only add to panic at first. Looking over, she notices his 'sleep' no longer seems quite as peaceful... he's now properly asleep instead of unconscious from trauma, and he's frowning slightly.
(no subject)
Date: 2011-07-03 19:27 (UTC)She turns back toward the bed, folding her arms and wearing a sympathetic sort of frown. "Poor kid. He's about to wake up and find he's lost everything."
The smallest glance at Mikoto, at that.
